The guestbook: your guests' words
Photos tell what happened, words say what people felt. The album's guestbook collects those words, written by your guests from their phone.
What the guestbook is
It is a page of the album where each guest leaves a note. It is included in the Complete and Pro plans (see the pricing table) and open by default: there is nothing to turn on. You can close it in the settings. If your album is on Discovery or Essential, you can move to a higher plan from the same settings.
- A name, required (60 characters at most): a first name, a nickname, "the cousins' table".
- A message of up to 2000 characters: enough to tell a memory, not just a wish.
The guestbook accepts text only. Photos go through the usual upload and join the gallery.
How your guests sign it
Nothing more than for the photos: they scan the QR code, land on the upload page and find "Sign the guestbook" there. No app, no account. They can write during the party or the next day, as long as the album accepts uploads.
Moderating entries
No links are accepted, and each entry is analysed automatically according to the album's mode. In Soft mode (the default), an entry with no problem is published straight away and a doubtful one waits for your decision. In Strict mode, every entry waits for your approval. Pending entries arrive in your review console, alongside the photos: "Publish" or "Discard", from your phone.
Read and keep the words
You read the guestbook from your host space. When you close the album, nobody can sign any more, but the book stays readable.
Good to know: the guestbook is not included in the HD archive, which contains the originals and the wall messages. To keep the words, copy the page's text into a document or print it from your browser, within the hosting period included in your plan.
The message wall, on the other hand, is for the live moment: 140 characters at most, scrolling on the slideshow during the party (see The live slideshow and messages). The guestbook keeps what people take the time to write.
Getting people to write
Faced with a blank page, most people write "Congratulations!". A specific question, slipped into your announcement or onto a card next to the QR code, gets much better words:
- Wedding: "Tell us the memory you keep of the two of us." See wedding photos.
- Birthday: "The day you met Karim: what was it like?" See birthday photos.
- Retirement: "The moment at work together you will never forget." See retirement.
